

Nalanda University
Nalanda University is a historic seat of learning that previously flourished in India’s Bihar state. During ancient times, it was one of the world’s earliest residential universities and an internationally renowned institution of higher education. The university was critical in distributing knowledge and encouraging intellectual dialogue across many areas.
Nalanda University was founded in the 5th century CE during the Gupta dynasty and flourished until the 12th century CE. It is thought to have been in use for approximately 800 years.
The institution was founded by Gupta Emperor Kumaragupta I, although it reached its pinnacle during Emperor Harsha’s reign in the 7th century CE.
